What's up, West Palm?

The Jesse Helms Foundation has officially landed in the Sunshine State! We're all checked into Palm Beach Atlantic University and this place couldn't be more beautiful. Bright, sunny and you can practically taste the sea salt.

This week, we have 19 students all the way from San Salvador joining us for the FELC program! They arrived the day before the program began, so we got a chance to look around West Palm Beach and take a few awesome pictures.

Ready, set, go! The teams are off and the heat is on. We've split into six company industries this week: two concessions two entertainment, one publications and one style. Time for some competition!

Brian Rogers, the FELC program director, gave the students the "run down" of the course called "Free Enterprise 101". Our main project this week is the company competition - where the students create their OWN companies and turn a TRUE profit...REAL money! On top of that, the FELC students will be assigned several projects that will all have to be finished by set deadlines. It takes a lot of team work, delegation and leadership skills to get it all done and be successful.

We've spent the past four hours working on building our companies. Each team has come up with their executive leaders, a company name, and some even have created a logo already! Teams have started brainstorming their products and services and analyzing their market to set their prices. It's amazing how much these students have created in just mere hours! TOMORROW starts selling and these companies need to be ready to sell, sell, SELL to make their revenue. The beauty of the free enterprise system it the owners of the businesses can pick and choose what to sell, how much to sell, and what price to sell it for. These students have to put their heads together to study their market and their competition to make educated decisions on how to make money. The free enterprise system gives
it's participants the freedom to succeed but also the freedom to fail. (Although, I am proud to say NOT ONE company since the foundation of FELC has left the challenge in debt! Every single company has made money through this system.)

Time to see what these students are made of! Ready, set, go!
